Angie Gates – President and CEO, Events DC

Oct 15, 2022

Events DC is the official convention, sports, and entertainment authority for the District of Columbia. As owner or operator of some of the District’s premier venues – including RFK Stadium, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Nationals Park, and more – Events DC drives more than $400 million in economic impact annually. Not only is the organization responsible for attracting world-class entertainment, business, and cultural events, it is deeply involved in real estate development as well as the administration of cultural and community grants.

To be effective, the person steering this multi-level ship needs demonstrated skill and expertise in everything from sports and entertainment management to economic development to branding, digital marketing, and technology. In July 2022, POLIHIRE partnered with the Board of Directors of Events DC to identify this rare leader, and after a nationwide search, Events DC named Angie Gates the new President and CEO in October.

Angie’s portfolio of leadership across entertainment, events management, and government service was the right mix. Her experience includes the positions of General Manager of the Warner Theatre in Washington, DC and Director of the Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment for the Government of the District of Columbia. She was also appointed to the Advisory Group of ReOpen DC, the Washington, DC COVID-19 task force that strategized the District’s post-lockdown plan. Angie also brought an Emmy Award home to Washington, DC in 2018 as Executive Producer of an episode of “The 202,” a Washington, DC news, entertainment and lifestyle show.

From the red carpet to the Mayor’s cabinet, Angie’s bona fides in business and entertainment through a lens of public service and community development are unassailable. On starting this new chapter of her career at Events DC, the longtime Ward 6 resident said, “…I’m inspired by the work of my predecessors and the commitment of the Events DC team to foster community across all eight Wards…. I will continue to further Events DC’s initiatives such as our 9th Street retail project, booking events at the ESA in Ward 8, and importantly, supporting our customers and partners who rely on us every day at the Convention Center.”
