The Prince George’s County Health Department (PGCHD) is one of the largest departments within Prince George’s County Government. With an annual operating budget of $95 million, the PGCHD employs over 480 people and contracts for more than $70 million in community-based services.
The PGCHD carries out traditional and mandatory public health functions such as: health promotion and prevention; inspection of food businesses; promoting improved environment quality; promoting pedestrian safety; HIV prevention, disease control, chronic disease prevention, population health management, community health services, research, and surveillance; tuberculosis (TB) prevention and treatment; emergency preparedness; and analysis of community public health data. PGCHD is supported by central administrative functions, including finance, human resources, communications, information technology, assessment and planning, and compliance. The PGCHD is committed to providing quality health care and public health services to all Prince Georgians, regardless of immigration or insurance status.
