Dr. Kenyatta N. Shamburger is a distinguished administrator and scholar with a rich history of contributions to higher education. He most recently served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Talladega College. Dr. Shamburger’s career in higher education administration includes various leadership roles. Before joining Talladega College, he was Chief of Staff at Philander Smith College (now Philander Smith University) in Little Rock, AR. His experience in higher education administration also includes positions at Iowa State University, Clemson University, and Morehouse College.  

A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Dr. Shamburger earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science, with minors in Psychology and African American Studies, from Northeastern University. He furthered his education with a master’s degree in Leadership and Administration from the Interdenominational Theological Center and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Iowa State University.  

A life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Dr. Shamburger has held various leadership roles within the fraternity and across several regions. He has served as a college chapter advisor, chapter officer, and area director, and has completed two terms as the Southern Region Executive Director. Currently, he serves as the Alabama District Executive Director, Director of Protocol and VIP Logistics for the General Organization, and Special Assistant to the Past General Presidents. He previously served on the Southern Region and General Organization Education Foundations and authored what is now adopted as the Fraternity’s National Chapter Advisor Training Program, which originated in the Southern Region.  

In addition to his fraternity involvement, Dr. Shamburger is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society. He is also a fellow of the Higher Education Leadership Foundation’s (H.E.L.F.) Leadership Institute and an inductee into the Martin Luther King Jr. Collegium of Scholars at Morehouse College.
