For more than five years, Cheran was the City Attorney for the City of Hampton in southeastern Virginia. Prior to that she held the roles of Deputy City Attorney, Senior Deputy Attorney, and Interim City Attorney for the City of Portsmouth, Virginia.
Cheran earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a JD from William & Mary Law School, where she later held a faculty position as Adjunct Professor.
